Stainless steel wire mesh — also known as stainless steel wire cloth, stainless steel mesh screen, or SS wire mesh — is a precision-manufactured metal screening material produced by weaving or welding high-grade stainless steel wires into a uniform square or rectangular grid structure. It combines the inherent corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability of stainless steel alloys with the precise aperture control achievable through industrial weaving or resistance welding processes.
At Beijing Vertepron International Trade Co., Ltd., we manufacture and export stainless steel wire mesh in a comprehensive range of grades, weave types, mesh counts, and wire diameters. Our production supports bulk rolls, custom-cut sheets, filter discs, cylinders, and other fabricated forms for industrial OEM and wholesale customers worldwide.Request Free Samples.

Applications by Industry
Petrochemical & Refinery Twill dutch weave and reverse dutch weave stainless steel mesh screens are used throughout oil refining, gas processing, and chemical manufacturing for liquid-solid separation, melt filtration, and catalyst support. 316L grade is standard for high-chloride and acid-contact applications. Typical specifications: 12×64 PDW to 165×800 TDW in 316L or 2205.
Food & Beverage Processing Food-grade stainless steel wire mesh in 304 or 316L is used in conveyor belts, sieving and sorting equipment, filtration of beverages, dairy processing, brewing systems, and sugar refining. The smooth, burr-free surface of woven mesh facilitates CIP (clean-in-place) sanitation. FDA and EC 1935/2004 compliance is standard for food-grade grades.
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology Ultra-fine twill dutch weave mesh (20–60 micron) in 316L or 904L is specified for pharmaceutical tablet coating machines, API filtration, lyophilization trays, and bioreactor components. Compliance with ISO cleanroom standards and full material traceability documentation are supported.
Water Treatment & Desalination Stainless steel mesh screens are deployed in pre-filtration, micro-screening, membrane support, and desalination intake protection. 316L is specified for seawater exposure. Common applications include drum screens, band screens, and wedge-wire alternative filter panels.
Mining & Mineral Processing Crimped woven mesh and welded stainless mesh are used in vibrating screens, trommel drums, and dewatering equipment for ore grading, coal washing, and aggregate sizing. The corrosion-resistant surface resists the abrasive slurry conditions that rapidly degrade galvanized or carbon steel alternatives.
Architecture & Construction Plain weave and twill weave stainless steel mesh panels are used as architectural infill for stair railings, balustrades, facade cladding, ceiling systems, and feature walls. 304 grade is standard for interior applications; 316 is specified for exterior or coastal environments. Common panel sizes: 1.0m × 2.4m to 1.5m × 3.0m.
Electronics & Precision Engineering Fine stainless steel wire mesh (100–635 mesh) is used as EMI/RFI shielding, vibration dampening, and precision filtration in electronic and optical equipment manufacturing. 304 and 316 are both specified depending on environmental conditions.

304 vs 316: How to Choose the Right Grade
The two most commonly specified grades — 304 and 316 stainless steel wire mesh — are often evaluated side by side by buyers. The following guide helps identify the correct selection for each application:
Choose 304 Stainless Steel Wire Mesh when:
The operating environment does not involve chlorides, saltwater, or strong acids
Applications are indoor or in moderate outdoor exposure (general screening, architectural mesh, window screens, food-grade dry processing)
Budget efficiency is a priority — 304 is 15–20% less expensive than 316 in equivalent specifications
Temperature does not continuously exceed 870°C (1,600°F)
Choose 316 / 316L Stainless Steel Wire Mesh when:
The mesh will be exposed to chloride ions, seawater, brine, or marine atmospheres
Chemical processing applications involve acetic acid, sulfuric acid, or phosphoric acid
The mesh will be welded into an assembly and must resist intergranular corrosion after welding (specify 316L for this requirement)
Applications are in pharmaceutical, food, or beverage processing where FDA/EC compliance with chloride environments is required
Offshore, desalination, or coastal industrial applications
Weave Type Comparison Summary
| Weave Type | Aperture Shape | Filtration Range | Strength | Best For |
|---|
| Plain Weave | Square | 40µm–12mm | Moderate | General screening, architecture |
| Twill Weave | Square (diagonal) | 20µm–5mm | High | Pressure filtration, architectural |
| Plain Dutch Weave | Tapered wedge | 40–300 µm | High | Melt filtration, hydraulic |
| Twill Dutch Weave | Sub-wedge | 5–60 µm | Very High | Pharmaceutical, aerospace |
| Reverse Dutch Weave | Tapered wedge | 20–200 µm | High | High-flow liquid separation |
| Welded Mesh | Square/rectangular | 3–100mm | Very High | Machine guards, security, architecture |
